Today we started our new unit! The students will be studying parts of speech, which will include nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, interjections, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions. You can help your students keep up with their studies by checking their ELA notebooks. They will be gluing in several new pieces in the upcoming weeks. Students should be encouraged to study these pages as much as possible. Tests and quizzes will be given throughout this unit and the more that they study their notebooks, the better off they will be on exams. Students can use "foldables" in notebooks to quiz themselves, and I would encourage all of you parents/guardians to use the notebooks as a way to quiz your child. You can ask them questions from the notebook to ensure that they are grasping the concepts.
THE BLUE SHEET: Each time you see a "blue sheet" in your child's notebook, it indicates that the students are beginning a new unit. As we study different components in that unit, the students will add a check to their blue sheet. Checking the blue sheet will help you see what we are currently studying and the topics that your child should already know.
If your child ever struggles with a certain topic (nouns, pronouns, etc...), then please encourage them to increase their study on the pages in their notebooks that cover that topic.
If you have any questions about any of this, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks!
